Catch a Georgia State Record Fish

If you catch a big fish while on a GA fishing trip, make sure that you weigh it, because it could be a record. All game fish are eligible, with the addition of catfish, gar, carp, bowfin and yellow perch and can be submitted by resident anglers, as well as non-residents.

You will need to turn in your application within 90 days though or your record fish that you caught while fly fishing north GA might not get recorded. Keep in mind that unless your fish weighs at least an ounce more than the current record holder, it will be only considered a tie. If you need to look up the record for your fish, just check the Georgia DNR website under the division of Wildlife Resources.

There is a specific way to weigh your super catch and these rules must be followed. The scale that is used must have been verified as being accurate within the year by the Department of Agriculture. If you are unsure how to measure and record the weight, just ask one of the local fly fishing guides GA to help you. The guides are helpful and make extra efforts to assist fellow fly fishing anglers. A certificate will be given to the winner of the Freshwater Fish State Record after it has been deemed officially recorded and verified by a staff member of the Fisheries Division.

Good Luck and happy fly fishing!
