When I Realized I Couldn’t Afford to be Married

Before you get upset and think I’m about to complain about my wife, just let me say I’m not. In fact, I love her more than anything in this world and would never complain about her on the Internet (least of all because she might read it). This is more of a casual observation that is bred of the ordeal I went through last week when trying to install one of those fancy new shower cubicles in our house. At least it started with the shower.

Soon enough though, I was rotating out the tile and resurfacing the bathroom shower in its entirety. I was replacing bathroom accessories that were covered in dry wall from all the drilling and putting up new hooks all around the top floor. It’s not even that I dislike doing work around the house – I love it. It’s that the whole ordeal cost us more than two months’ mortgage payments and that’s just to get everything replaced. To be fair, the bathroom was a sty and she was right to say we needed to remodel – I just know that, as a messy bachelor, I would have probably let it rot to pieces before even looking for a drill.
