User-Generated News Added to the Online News Mix
By Prime in Internet | 0 comments
A new vision of news is needed by online news organizations that should be tailored and responsive to readers. This type of user-generated content including photos, video and blog stories and emails are being incorporated into broadcast news. The ability of readers to help cover the news means that online news organizations do not have a monopoly on their stories and must be responsive to all forms of input.
The general public now has greater choice with less brand loyalty and more power to get the news when, where, and how they want it. News organizations face challenges from social media sites such as YouTube and MySpace which attract large audiences.
When you engage an audience the challenge lies in how to collect the information, how to organize it and how to present it. This means a big paradigm shift is needed by many within the web-based news industry. With so many technological advances the challenge also lies in how news organizations should present this user-generated news.
