I don’t have a fancy cell phone. I can’t take a decent picture with the camera on my phone. I can’t surf the web from my phone. And I can’t even check my email from my phone. This annoys some of the people in my life who want to send email messages to me on my phone. I don’t plan on getting a new cell phone anytime soon so they’re just going to have to deal with it. What I’ve told them is that they can email me and wait until I get home to receive the email. However, if it’s really important, they could actually use an SMS gateway to send the email to me as a text message.

To do this, they basically just need to know two things. They need to know the carrier that I’m on with my cell phone and they need to know my cell phone number. Then they can just get into their normal email accounts and send the message to me through that. Instead of putting my email address in the “To” line, they enter the phone number and carrier. I’ll get the email as a text message. It’s been useful for work on a few occasions. Although, to be honest, there’s a reason I don’t have a fancy phone so I’m glad that most of my friends don’t know how to do this!
