Repetitive Strain Injury: A Cautionary Tale
By obPrimr in Health | 1 comment
If you work at home or in an office and doing a lot of typing or mousework is part of your job description, you should know about your risk for repetitive strain injury.
RSI is where you develop pain from doing the same minute motions over and over again, usually in your wrists and arms from typing or moving and clicking the mouse. For instance, I developed RSI three years ago when I first started working as a freelance writer; although I was used to typing all day, I wasn’t used to it with quite that intensity. In addition, as a freelancer I was having to do things like search for jobs frequently, which required a lot of moving and clicking the mouse — something I wasn’t as accustomed to.
Because my mom had a bout of carpal tunnel about ten years ago, also when she switched jobs, I was immediately concerned about getting carpal tunnel treatment. Luckily, it turned out I didn’t need much of anything — taking more breaks away from the keyboard, and practicing some natural pain relief such as magnetic healing, took care of the problem, and it hasn’t come back since.
I am not alone in experiencing RSI as a work-at-homer, though. A lot of people who work from home, such as graphic artists and entrepreneurs with online businesses, run into the same kind of problems. The solution is usually to take good care of yourself and allow yourself frequent breaks (even if they are short breaks).

I also plan to put up an Online Business because the internet is also a good place to sell products. The number of Internet users and potential buyers from the internet is also growing.
