Having children changes everything for a couple. Once able to focus on themselves, their jobs and their home, when a baby is born the world changes for the parents and the baby becomes the center of everything. One daunting task for new parents is baby proofing the house in anticipation of the toddler years which seems to creep up when the new parents are still blurry eyes from midnight feedings and late night walking the floors with a crying baby.

Baby-proofing a home means strategically placing gates, especially at stairs and emptying bottom cabinets so the child in the family has free run over a limited area. Plastic plugs go into every electrical socket. Those pesky plastic fake knobs go on every door your little one may ever try to gain access to.  Burning candles are a thing of the past because they are breakable and the scented candles may cause your precious child to have allergies. Often, new parents look to replace items with organic products including soy candles. Every breakable item suddenly goes up on shelves or into closets. End and coffee tables are cleared and soft toys and baby books litter the house.  Newborns turn into toddlers overnight and baby-proofing begins when the baby comes home from the hospital.
