An Upstate New York Pastime

Temperatures hovering below zero and with wind chill, temperatures were dipping to 30 degrees below zero. The term “bone chilling cold” was born in Upstate New York where the snow dumps tons of snow and the winds carry the snow into drifts often higher than the garage door. A favorite pastime for Upstate New Yorkers is snowmobiling. Instead of driving cars around town, it is not unusual to see snowmobiles parked outside grocery stores or restaurants.

To combat the freezing temperatures, snowmobilers wear jumpsuits or bibs and heavy duty coats to protect against the element. Bringing the kids out for a spin on the snowmobile require more planning and gear designed for frigid temperatures. Kids snowboard jacket should be worn by any child who braves the temperatures to ride with mom or dad on a snowmobile. Pants or jeans should be covered with kids ski pants to combat slush that gets kicked up on the ride. Keeping dry when temperatures are pushing negative numbers could make for a more comfortable ride. Most children in Upstate New York own children ski wear due to the amount of snow that the area receives.

Snowmobiling can be an exhilarating experience. With the prices of gas lately, it may be cheaper to take the snowmobile to the grocery store than taking the family car. Take the kids out to the grocery for an adventure.
