Travelling for College and Culinary Education

After I graduated from Culinard with a degree in the culinary arts, I knew my culinary education would not be complete until I had tried foods from other countries. So I decided to travel.
My first stop was Thailand. Thai food is very unique, unlike most other foods including Asian foods. But not only is it unique, but it is rapidly gaining in popularity here in the states. I figured, any food that was liked so much that it became popular in the United States was a food that I could probably learn a lot from.
Thai food in Thailand is pretty delicious, but surprisingly I didn’t learn a lot about the cooking of the food. What I did learn about was how many people enjoy the presentation. At many Thai restaurants, they have entire shows that go along with your meal, so as you are eating you can watch a number of different men and women dancing around you or performing something that looks ceremonial, but probably isn’t. Overall, it was a very unique experience, and what I learned from that was to consider adding shows and visual things to any restaurant I start, so that I can create an additional ambiance with the food.
