Finding Out the Truth About College Expenses

One of the things that I wanted to know early on about college was the truth about what my child and I would be looking at in terms of a financial commitment.  You see, I never had the opportunity to attend college, but I wanted to give my child the chance.

So, I decided to seek some professional advice from a certified college planning specialist to see what kind of financial planning we would need to do before our child was ready to attend college.  We decided to do this when she was young (she is three right now) as we knew that if we needed to save up money, it was going to take some time.

The planner was very helpful at showing us how affording an education wasn’t going to be as big of a deal as I had thought.  Sure, it was going to take some discipline and savings, but it was going to be an attainable goal.

After the meeting, we went home to discuss the steps we needed to take to ensure that we would have enough money set aside for the day that she decides to go to college.  I think that we will take the time to check in from time to time with college planning services to ensure that our plan is on track.

I can’t wait for the day that Courtney enters college - it will be like a dream come true.
