Offering a Paper Shredding Service
By Prime in Business | 0 comments
While trying to come up with a new business idea, I decided to do a little bit of brainstorming with a couple different groups of people to see if I could find a million-dollar idea for a new business in our area. Quite a few of the ideas were already developed in our community and so they were quickly discarded. But there were a couple of gems that I decided that I would look into a little bit further.
Out of the shortlist of potential businesses that I could create, the idea of creating a paper shredding service appeared to hold the most promise. There was no one in town that offers that type of service and therefore we would have first mover advantage with no competition.
I prepared a business plan for this new business so that we would have a better understanding as to the service that we would offer as well as the equipment (such as commercial paper shredders) that we would need. It could also serve as a tool for us to get financing should it be required.
While creating a business plan, I had the opportunity to view an industrial shredder demonstration. I requested this specifically from the manufacturer to see if it would be an appropriate purchase for the company. As it turns out, it didn’t quite fit our application, so we had to pass on the generous discount they offered us.
We found another supplier that carried Dahle shredders that fit perfectly with our organization. They were a good mix between price and performance and would be a good start for the company. We ordered five and installed them in the five trucks there we purchased for our new mobile paper shredding service.
We distributed a flyer listing 10 good reasons to hire professional paper shredder to local businesses and responses been very positive. It looks like with a little planning and a great idea, we have a successful business on our hands.
