About eight years ago I left one of the big pest control companies that everybody has heard of. I had been with them for many years and was a district manager at that point. It wasn’t that I disliked what I was doing though. I just thought that it was time to spread my own wings and fly. I wanted to own my own pest control company.

So before I left, I started putting the pieces in place to open my own company. And the transition from employee to owner went really smoothly. As business picked up, I hired my sons too. Now we have a thriving small family business.

But the state requires I keep records. They can in fact audit me at any time. So we did keep records. But this is a business that we literally run out of my house. And these file cabinets were starting to take up way too much space. So my business manager (my wife) decided to scan all of these records in and save them in a digital format. She did a scanner rental to get us caught up because she needed a fast one. But now she scans as she goes with a cheap one she bought. It saved us a lot of room so I would suggest it to any other small business owner.
