Giving a Good Presentation

teacher2Many of us find ourselves in the position that we are required to give a presentation to a group of people. Here are some tips for giving a good presentation:

  • Prepare everything in advance. You don’t want to write out what you’re going to say but you do want a list of bullet points to keep you on track. You also want to make sure that you have everything that you need for the presentation. For example, if you need computer rental or projector rental then you should plan that well in advance.
  • Get up early and get to the presentation before your students do. This gives you plenty of time to get there and to get used to the room. You don’t want to seem rushed during your presentation.
  • Speak clearly and loudly. People don’t want to have to ask you to repeat yourself.
  • Let everyone know when they can ask questions. You can have them ask questions as they come up or hold their questions until the end of your presentation but they need to know in advance what you want them to do.
  • Stay aware of the energy level in the room. If everyone’s getting bored then you want to stop the presentation and do a Q&A or talk about a different aspect of the presentation. It’s better to get off track a bit than to bore your audience!
