The world is starting to really comprehend what software and information technology can do for people.  When you think about it, practically everything that people do involves information and communication.  “Information Age” doesn’t refer to the age when information and communication become important to humans.  It refers to the age when people become extremely good at it.  Ice age hominids must have needed super slick and seamless communication to hunt down saber tooth tigers and wooly mammoths.  Humans aren’t about problem-solving skills, in the end of it all.  What sets us apart from animals and makes us unstoppable is our ability to communicate and work together-with contemporaries and (via writing) with other generations. 

A project management software system is a great example.  Most people-hunter and gatherers, sports teams, businesses, work together, and coordinating their efforts is essential to success.  Even basic features like time tracking software and resource allocation can revolutionize the way people work together.  “Revolutionalize” sounds a bit bombastic, but you’d be amazed at how much more smoothly everything a team does runs when everyone knows exactly who is doing what.  Software allows people to keep absolutely up to date even if they’re working across the world-and that’s priceless.
